A 10-Year Drive To Put The Brakes On Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is a highly treatable disease that now has a survival rate of 85 percent. Yet more than 212,000 women are still diagnosed with the condition each year.
Since early diagnosis is an important key to successful treatment, doctors say it's important that all women over the age of 18 do a Breast Self-Exam (BSE) every month, two or three days after their menstrual cycle. In addition, women between 20 and 39 should have a clinical breast exam at least every three years and women 40 and older should have a mammogram every year.
For the past 10 years, BMW of North America has worked with The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation-the largest fund-raiser for breast cancer research in America-to help spread the message of early detection and to help ensure that breast cancer research continues. The groups' Ultimate Drive program has raised millions to help fund the efforts.
The initiative, fully underwritten by BMW, consists of two fleets of specifically badged BMWs making a cross-country trek, stopping in communities along the way to hold daylong events. People will be invited to test-drive the cars-at no cost to the participants-to raise money for breast cancer research, education and screening treatment programs.
The car company donates $1 directly to the Komen Foundation for each mile driven, along with whatever other proceeds are received from the program. Upon completion of every drive, each participant adds his or her own name to the Signature Vehicle-this year, a BMW 3-Series.
This year's goal is to raise over $1 million, bringing the program's 10-year total up to over $10 million. To help celebrate the initiative's 10th anniversary, the 240-stop cross-country trek has been expanded to include Alaska.
People can test-drive the cars to help fight breast cancer. They can also:
.# Regularly conduct BSEs, have clinical exams and mammograms
# Stop smoking and stressing
#Get more exercise
#Cut or reduce their alcohol consumption
# Watch their diet. Try to eat plenty of olive oil, fruits, vegetables, grains, fresh fish and poultry.
8 Breast Feeding Benefits and The Long Term EffectSummary:
Breast feeding is the single most important thing you can do to protect your baby and help to promote good health. Best of all, breast feeding is free.
Breast Feeding Benefits 1
Breast feeding is the single most important thing you can do to protect your baby and help to promote good health. Best of all, breast feeding is free.Breast Feeding Benefits 2
Breast feeding can also help you to keep your medical bills down. Babies that are fed with formula get sicker more often and more seriously than babies that are breast fed They also have more ear infections, respiratory infections, and other problems.
Breast Feeding Benefits 3
When a baby is breast fed, the antibodies pass on from the mother to the baby, helping to protect against illness and allergies. As the baby's system matures, his body will begin to make it's own antibodies, and he'll be more equipped to handle sensitivities of food.
Breast Feeding Benefits 4
Sucking on the breast will also help with the development or jaw alignment and the development of the cheekbone. For this very reason, there is less of the need for costly orthodontic work when the child gets older.
Breast Feeding Benefits 5
Breast milk is always ready, always available, convenient, and always the right temperature for feeding. Plus, it contains all of the vitamins and minerals your growing baby needs, saving you a lot of money.
Breast Feeding Benefits 6
Breast feeding also offers many benefits for the mom as well. The baby sucking at the breast will cause contractions right after birth, leading to less bleeding for the mom, and helping her uterus to it's shape before pregnancy much faster.
Breast Feeding Benefits 7
Breast feeding will also burn calories, so a mom can lose weight much faster than if she fed her baby with a bottle.
Breast Feeding Benefits 8
Breast feeding will also create a special bond with the mother and the baby - which is one thing formula simply cannot do.
Long term Breast Feeding Benefits
The important long term benefits of breast feeding include reduced risk of asthma, allergies, obesity, and some forms of childhood cancer. The more that scientists continue to learn, the better breast milk looks.
In addition to making your baby healthier, breast feeding may also make him smarter. Many studies have proved that breast fed babies tend to be more smarter than babies who were fed with formula or other methods. Breast feeding does help with nutrients and the support of brain growth, which is something every mother should think about.
The benefits for the nursing mom are just as good as they are for the baby. The hormones that are released during breast feeding will curb blood loss post delivery and help to shrink the uterus back to it's normal size.
Long term, the breast feeding mom will have a lower risk for postmenopausal breast cancer, which is the kind that strikes before the age of 50. The benefits will begin to show with three to six months of breast feeding and increase the longer that breast feeding continues.
Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh dies from Ebola virus
comment
Yes, unfortunately it's true. Just confirmed from a family source. Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, the Senior
Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist who was one of the doctors who
attended to Patrick Sawyer at First Consultant Hospital has died from
the Ebola virus which she contracted from Sawyer.
Dr. Ameyo died this afternoon at the isolation centre in Lagos where she'd been quarantined. She died a hero because she was the doctor who refused to let Patrick Sawyer, the man who brought the Ebola virus to Nigeria, leave the first when he attempted to leave. She saved many lives by doing this.
She's survived by a son and her husband. May her beautiful soul rest in peace...amen.

Pope Francis: I could quit like Benedict or even die by 2017
Pope Francis has suggested that he might one day resign the papacy like
his predecessor,
Pope Benedict XVI did last year, which would make him the second
consecutive Pope to do so after almost 600 years. He said this yesterday
Aug. 18th while speaking with reporters on his way back to Rome after
his
state visit to South Korea.
"Some theologians may say this is not right, but I think this way. Let us think about what [Benedict XVI] said, "I have gotten old, I do not have the strength", it was a beautiful gesture of nobility, of humility and courage. But you could say to me, if you at some time felt you could not go forward, I would do the same."
Asked
about his immense popularity, the Pope, 77, joked that he would
probably die in the next 2/3 years so should not get too proud:
“I know this will last a short time, two or three years, and then to the house of the Father.” he said

Why Nigerian players are not involved in the big transfer moves
Despite extensive rumours, Nigeria's high-profile
players are largely still at the clubs they were at last season. Why
have so few deals been done?
African players have largely been out of the transfer headlines this summer. There was Serge Aurier’s move to Paris Saint-Germain, of course, while Didier Drogba has returned to Chelsea, but largely, the gossip columns have been dominated by the likes of Luis Suarez, James Rodriguez, Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez.
When the news of Ideye Brown's move to English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion was revealed, many Nigerian fans celebrated it as a good move. Others, however, considered it demotion—Ideye was, after all, leaving Dynamo Kyiv, domestic giants and regular European competitors for a team that struggled to avoid the drop to the Championship last season.
During the World Cup, there were reports linking some of the Eagles' top performers to top European clubs, but with the EPL season only days away, those moves have largely yet to materialise.
Kenneth Omeruo, arguably Nigeria's best outfield player at the World Cup, returned back to Middlesbrough, where he had spent the second half of last season.
This particular transfer move raised a few eyebrows, as many Super Eagles fans struggled to find any viable reason behind his parent club, Chelsea's, decision to send one of their highly-rated youngsters to a Championship side rather than earn some pre-season playing time, like Kurt Zouma or Nathan Ake.
Similarly, the likes of Michel Babatunde and Emmanuel Emenike were linked with moves to major European leagues but, at the time of writing, remain at the same clubs they were at last season. John Obi Mikel, Victor Moses and Ogenyi Onazi have all also been named as transfer targets for one side or another, but the reported interest is yet to lead to anything substantial.
The question many are asking is “Why then are the Super Eagles' stars finding it difficult to land decent moves to bigger clubs?”
For some time now it has seemed that players from the African continent are less highly-rated than their compatriots from Europe and South America.
It's obvious that the European media’s player ratings is part of the reason why clubs generate interest in them.
Are African players truly getting the credit they deserve?
John Obi Mikel has been linked with a move away, like teammate Ashley Cole, but remains a Chelsea player
For example, at the World Cup, after the Round of 16, Omeruo was statistically above many more experienced and established centre-backs in Europe, but he rarely got rave reviews and ratings. A player like Raphael Varane, however, who made fewer tackles, blocks and interceptions despite playing a game more, was nominated for the FIFA Young Player of the Year award.
Such a nomination would surely have made Ômeruo a major transfer target for most European clubs.
Everton, after being linked with Onazi, went ahead to sign Bosnia midfielder Muhamed Besic. No doubt Besic is not a better option than Onazi, who had a better tackle-completion rate, made a higher frequency of key passes and even managed a better shot accuracy.
80 per cent of Besic's passes at the World Cup were sideways and backwards. Onazi also offers an appreciable amount of experience, having played for SS Lazio in Serie A for two seasons now. Besic, however, only joined Everton from the relative backwater of the Hungarian league.
Are African players being acknowledged as they should be? One suspects that Yaya Toure would agree with my cynicism.
It’s a well-known fact that before most of the clubs competing in Europe's top five leagues bid for a player, his club records, and not only his performance in tournaments like the World Cup, are considered.
This is where many of Nigeria's World Cup stars fall short.
For instance, a player like Emmanuel Emenike, who scored 12 times and provided nine assists last season for Fenerbahce in a less-reputable league, cannot be considered a prolific striker. It may well represent a major gamble to recruit someone who is not “tried and tested” despite his seemingly abundant qualities. He might have also provided two assists at the World Cup, but he also failed to find the back of the net and this does not augur well for his EPL transfer ambitions.
The transient and sometimes unstable conditions that African players need to work in to make the leap from the continent’s domestic leagues to one of Europe’s “Big Five” are not favourable, and too often, would-be successes fall by the wayside. Just look at someone like Stephen Worgu, one or two bad career moves, and we’re still waiting for him to make that long-awaited transition to one of Europe’s major leagues.
It may never happen for him, but surely a player of comparable ability, raised in a European nation, would have been afforded every chance to succeed.
In summary, one can only hope that the Super Eagles players will have an impressive season with their various clubs. This, coupled with a fantastic outing at the 2015 Afcon, should help make a good case for moves to bigger clubs.
Perhaps in a year’s time there will be many more Nigerian players celebrating transfers to major European sides.
Moyes: I wanted to sign Bale & Ronaldo for Manchester United
The Scot says he wanted to bring in the best players
in the world during his short reign at Old Trafford, but would not blame
under-fire Ed Woodward for failing to do so
David Moyes has admitted that he wanted to sign Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo for Manchester United.

MAN UTD LATEST |
The club's failings in the transfer market were subject to an internal inquiry 12 months ago, and they are faring no better this time around with new boss Louis van Gaal fielding a line-up consisting of youngsters and players tipped to leave the club for the defeat against Swansea.
And Moyes, who arrived at Carrington at four in the morning on the day he was sacked, admitted that he wanted to sign the very biggest names in football during his short reign, though he was reluctant to blame executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward for those failures.
"It's been well documented that we wanted Fabregas, Bale and Ronaldo," Moyes told the Daily Mail. "There was talk of Ronaldo when I first arrived. We were close to getting a couple of major names. I'm not getting in a blame game here but things just didn’t materialise.
"I had taken over from the most successful manager in history. The chief executive had taken over from one of the most renowned administrators in the game [David Gill]. So it was a new job for two people."
Moyes insists he was the right man for the United job, but accepts that following Ferguson would be beyond most managers.
"It was a step into the unknown and, looking back now, it was near enough the impossible job," he added.
"But it was the right job for me. I'd been at Everton for more than 11 years. We'd qualified for the Champions League, got to an FA Cup final, I'd been voted manager of the season three times. I was among the most experienced managers in the Premier League. United had always had British managers.
"I was devastated to lose the job because it was something I felt I could make a real success of. We knew it was going to take time to make the necessary changes. It was going to take time to evolve but we were in the process of making other important changes. In the end, I don't feel I was given time to succeed or fail."
Moyes said he would continue to follow the Red Devils' fortunes after his first close-season without a club since he was 16.
"It's going to hurt that I'm not managing Manchester United because that's obviously what I'd have liked to have been doing," he continued, "but I'll watch the games. I won't be running away from it. Football is something I've been involved in since I was a boy."
Photo: Police recover, return N15m to Sokoto robbery victim
The Sokoto state Police command has recovered and returned N15million which was stolen from an unidentified man by a 5-man
armed robbery gang at the Ilela border market in Ilela LGA of Sokoto state on June 1st.
Parading the suspects with the money recovered at the
Sokoto state Police command headquaters, DCP Douglas Agbonleni who
spoke on behalf of the Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, Gambo Lawal,
gave an insight on how the robbers were able to dislodge their victim
of the money and how they were subsequently caught. Continue...
"The robbery operation was successful as they were able to dispossess their target of over N15 million cash at the Ilela border market, after firing into the air to scare people. We received the information at about 6pm on June 1 and instantly went on stop-and-search operation and our men at Rabbah local government found a black colour Volkswagen Golf car with registration number Jigawa AG 569 HJA along the forest route and apprehended three of the criminals while the other two escaped" he said.
The Police said after they arrested the armed robbers in the bush, the robbers offered to give them the stolen N15million on the condition that they let them go, but the police men declined the offer. The police then launched a search for the remaining two robbers who escaped. A mobile phone which they used in communicating was used to track down the other two criminals.
"When the first three were arrested, we searched the vehicle and recovered the money, we discovered a GSM telephone and upon diligent investigation, we traced that phone to Kano and our detectives proceeded to Kano where we were able to trace the owner of that phone who was a member of the robbery gang and had escaped from Illela. We discovered that the telephone belongs to one Habibu Abdullahi (Alias 02). He is popularly called 02 in Kano. We picked him up and we knew that they were about five members in that gang. So after arresting and interrogating Habibu Abdullahi, the fifth member of the gang, Garba Ismail was traced to a suburb of Kano and picked up also. So all the five members of the gang that came here to rob at the Illela town have been picked up,” he said. The owner of the N15m stolen who was present at the press briefing confirmed he had received his money.
Right, that's it for Goal's Transfer Window LIVE blog today! We've seen the start of the Premier League season throw up some unexpected results already, with Louis van Gaal sure to strengthen considering Manchester United's meek 2-1 home defeat to Swansea. With Liverpool sealing a deal for Alberto Moreno,
the pressure is already on the Dutch manager to mastermind a route back
into the top four - but it doesn't look easy. Bye for now.
